How good does it feel to step into a new car with no odors! October is odor free month at Mr Cool Automotive and we are going to teach you how to keep that bad smells out of your car air conditioning.

The Cabin Filter!

Most modern vehicles on the road today have a cabin filter built into there Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) system. This Cabin filter, or often appropriately referred to as a Pollen filter, captures all airborne materials such as dirt, dust, leaves and pollen. The pollen filter is located at the point the air enters the air conditioning system, making it sometimes very easy to remove and change and others time a little more difficult, however it is generally only a fifteen minute job for any qualified mechanic.

To find out when your pollen filter should be changed, refer to your manufacture hand book. Generally we recommend to replace the cabin filter every 15,000 to 20,000km. Not changing your cabin filter can result in a build up of dirt, dust and debre, creating a perfect breading ground for mold and germs, mixing this with the moisture from your car air conditioning system and the result is some bad smells floating around your car, not to mention a whole heap of nasties you could be breathing in.

At Mr Cool Automotive we check your Cabin Filter every service and advise you if it needs replacing. Generally the cost is only $35 – $50 and is installed free of charge. This is a small price to pay for a breath of fresh air!
